Rain on your Wedding Day – Why it Doesn’t Matter

RAIN ON YOUR WEDDING DAY

  • Couples often worry about the chance of having rain on their wedding day, and I always tell them the same thing: it doesn’t matter if it does! We all know that in this lovely country, we do tend to get A LOT of rain, so the best thing to do is to simply embrace it! After all, your wedding day is about celebrating your love with your family and friends – who cares what the weather is doing!
  • Rain can be fun – your guests will be huddling under umbrellas together, whilst (very Britishly of course) complaining about the weather and laughing all the same; in some ways, it might even make the day extra memorable, and it will certainly add a gorgeous texture (and a bit of magic) to your images.

  • Don’t think or worry too much about the weather, because it’s out of your control. Instead, think about the beautiful reflections in puddles, the movement of raindrops across the lens…not to mention all the fun you can have with umbrellas! (If the forecast is looking soggy, I always pack a few clear and white umbrellas, because I know that not only to they serve the practical purpose of keeping you dry, but they also make for excellent props!)

Photography tips for rain on your wedding day

  • If your venue is likely to have lots of muddy areas, remember to pack some wellies or a change of shoes
  • If you’re getting married in the summer, make sure your venue also has an indoor ceremony option (just in case!)
  • You definitely don’t need bright sunshine and blue skies to make your wedding day perfect – it will be that anyway, whatever the weather.
